About Me
I'm from British Columbia, Canada and completed my BSc. in Microbiology at the University of British Columbia. After graduation I worked in wildfire managment for a couple years and travelled a little before ending up at the Arizona College of Optometry. I've loved my journey in Optometry and am always looking for something fun to do outdoors. I enjoy hiking, camping, golfing, skiing and playing guitar all while I'm seeing new places. I ended up driving around lots while in Texas from Big Bend to Del Rio to Houston and all the little towns between. There are lots of hikes to do in Big Bend and going to a Star Party at the Fort Davis Observatory is a must. My favorite places to go out were #1 Desert Ghost Distillery and Pizzaria in Marathon, #2 Bordo Italian in Marfa and #3 The Sentinel Coffee and Cocktails in Marfa.
My Clinical Experience
Coming straight out of 3rd year clinical into this site was a real eye-openner for the type of pace I needed to develop as a doctor, but the preceptors here made it feel much more comfortable than I had imagined. They give you all the tools to perform and ease you into patient encounters as you become more efficient. The doctors constantly encourage students to make difficult calls and develop a plan that will be effective and managable for patients considering the significant travel times it may take to see a specialist in this area. I plan to work in rural Canada and the lessons I learned here have made me much more confident in my ability to service such areas. You will see everything come through the doors of West Texas Eyecare, from pediatrics to trauma and everything in between. Though it is a primary care site there is a heavy dose of contact lens, disease and foreign body removal compared to other locations along with a couple Spanish-only exams on an average day.
