Ysabel Solis - UIWRSO 2026

About Me

Hi! My name is Ysabel and I’m a born and raised West Texan! I grew up and graduated high school in Big Spring TX, which is about 2 hours east of Fort Stockton (go steers!). I then attended Angelo State University and received my Bachelor of Science majoring in Biology with minors in psychology and chemistry. Fast forward to now, I’m a 4th year student at RSO in San Antonio (and beyond ready to graduate).  Some of my favorite things to do in my free time is hang out with my two mini aussies (Bentley and Koda), play pickleball with friends (ALOT), and force my boyfriend to binge watch reality TV with me.

My Time in Fort Stockton

Inside the clinic:  First and foremost, if you have this site in the spring right before graduation, you’re SO lucky. Dr. Cherry and Dr. Pass do an incredible job of preparing you for the real world! The transition from student to full-time doctor felt a little overwhelming at first, but they both did a great job of reassuring me in my clinical abilities and clinical knowledge. Over what felt like the fastest three months of my life, I improved my exam efficiency and clinical thought processes. I removed double digit amounts of foreign bodies, saw a wide range of anterior and posterior segment diseases, and learned a few secrets behind the art of refracting and prescribing. I absolutely loved my time at West Texas Eyecare and am deeply grateful for the knowledge, encouragement, and clinical skills I gained under their guidance. This truly is the “Best Externship Ever” (and they have the trophy to prove it!)

Outside the clinic: Although I am a born and raised West Texan, I actually had never made it out this far west. With Big Bend being 2 hours away, I took advantage of that and went down and explored the dinosaur exhibit, drove through the park, and hiked the trail at Santa Elena Canyon. It was really beautiful, but brutal to do in the summer. On other weekends Dr. Pass invited us out to explore the cute little town of Marfa, out to Del Rio to spend a day out on Lake Amistad, and to Marathon for dinner at the Gage Hotel. My favorite thing to do after getting out of clinic was to take my dogs for a walk in Rooney Park, the dog park located behind the bleachers of the city pool is 10/10 and they loved it! I never did make it out to explore Fort Davis but heard many wonderful things about it from the patients that live there!

A few of my favorites
